the more i experience New Style Arousal™️, the more i am coming to understand that Old Style Arousal had some serious translation layers bolted around it.
NSA is just fizzy and nice all on its own, and can be acted upon.
OSA was a herald of nice things to come (heh), but only if it was acted upon, and in the mean time it was just kind of awkward and uncomfortable.

With NSA I can just... vibe along and enjoy it, even if nothing happens. if i did that with OSA, it would eventually curdle into disappointment. yes, even if i tried to be reasonable and adult about it, cause not every boner turns into an orgasm, but it was still frustrating, on an unavoidably visceral level, if it didn't. this was actually a continual source of angst for me because i felt like i should be better and more high-minded about it. but it just didn't work that way. …
