From my old twitter archives,
Adding X number of odd numbers yields X exponent 2.
Not sure of the logic/theory behind this.
(eg: add the first 3 odd numbers together, and you your 3 exponent 2).

@jfmezei@cosocial.ca there is a nice visual proof of this, if you think about putting pennies on a table in a square pattern. 1 penny is a square of side one. Then 3 more to make a 2x2 square, the. 5 more to make a 3x3 square, and so on and so forth.
