turns out not only can i get 5 milliseconds local audio latency out of the old eeepc 900… it can do bluetooth audio with 512 samples (~10.6ms) and it doesn’t need aptX to do that. SBC-XQ has quality comparable to aptX HD but needs considerably less processing power (the eeepc is so slow that stereo aptX HD takes 15% CPU) (technically opus is also an option that can surpass either of these codecs but it does not work well at all over bluetooth the way pipewire does it)
