Tech debt being created "just because I can", not because you should, struck a chord.
I think it's just the latest incarnation of people who got into programming because they heard you could make money at it, and not because they had any real interest in the technology.

Some might view it as gatekeeping, but whatever. While probably most people *can* learn to program, not everyone *should* - because everyone's different, with different talents and strengths. Computing is just one field in the vast scope of learnable knowledge, and odds are that any particular person's talents are best suited elsewhere.
