@DaleOh@beige.party @fribbledom@mastodon.social It's a metaphor for deferred maintenance, putting off code reviews, software upgrades et al. in the name of convenience or consistency, or just because everyone is chasing the new thing. Sometimes it's due to laziness but more often due to understaffing. And like most debts, the effort required to resolve the issue keeps growing the longer it's ignored.

@DaleOh@beige.party @fribbledom@mastodon.social All the shortcuts we take to stay within a deadline, and intend to come back and fix later, but never do. Over time they just keep piling up until nobody has a clue about how the damn thing works or how to fix it when it breaks.
