@robyn@yeg.bike I haven't heard of this in particular, but I'm at the point where someone who came into our office and physically gives the receptionist a resume is pretty much guaranteed an interview (this has happened exactly once since I've been a position where I have to hire).
There's such massive quantities of applications that are just spamming digital application channels now. Even if they're real people, they're often fake resumes with invented qualifications and experience from an LLM.

@robyn@yeg.bike I have two theories on the business model: - data harvesting to train a bot to churn out resumes that get callbacks (or maybe to build a customer list for an AI resume filtering solution...create a problem and then sell the solution?) - intentional dystopia bots, funded by the same people who fund online troll farms. Making it both impossible to hire and impossible to get a job without a personal connection creates fertile ground for propaganda.
