Coming back to the top of the thread to save @ spamming everyone…
Youtube folk really rate the Bambu A1 (or mini) as an entry level machine. The ecosystem side of it is good for kids to use.
The Creality Ender V3 is cheaper and more basic, but I’d probably want to set up Octoprint etc. Creality also now have the SparkX i7 which is directly in competition with the A1 so that looks extremely tempting.
Is multi-colour overkill to start with? Probably.
Arrrgh.

@jmb@mastodon.me.uk multi colour is a blessing and a curse, enables some great prints but have to teach the kids that having a print job do hundreds of colour changes and wasting 5 times as much filament than is in the model isn’t sustainable! 😂
