@CoolerPseudonym@wandering.shop I've always assumed checked out e-books would have DRM and thusly be a pain in the ass.
So instead I check out physical books then find the digital copies online.
With a major upside aside from everything you mentioned being that I get to browse the library, which is always a great place to be.
