In scenes with real wolves on set, director Michael Wadleigh said that they had to use a dozen police sharpshooters, positioned widely, as the wolves were considered wild and uncontrollable animals. These sharpshooters were ordered to shoot to kill if a wolf got out of the enclosed area.
