American friends: are you ever struck by the cognitive dissonance of living in a country that uses the word "freedom" in every third sentence, but can require a convenience store clerk to submit to random drug testing as a condition of employment? That kind of personal invasion for non-critical jobs would be unimaginable in Canada or the EU. Your employer is not entitled to your bodily fluids. #privacy #freedom

@david_megginson@mstdn.ca because "freedom is everybody's job" from cold war adds so their freedom really is slavery. Even blind people were supposed to value work more than equal pay according to the act they made to exploit us

@david_megginson@mstdn.ca First off, don’t confuse Americans with American politicians. No one here talks about freedom, except to say that it’s vanishing. Secondly, no one gives a shit what the guy at the convenience store does on his time off. Very few of them are corporately owned and I doubt drug test. Half of them are selling black market drugs. It’s a big country. Just because you heard one story, doesn’t mean it applies to everyone.
