Ah yes, this is an unfortunate side effect of putting up bird feeders… I used to think squirrels were cute little critters who bring joy to my day. Now I know that they are shameless gluttonous destructive tree rats that exist solely to dig holes everywhere and foil my efforts to provide nourishment to my feathered friends.
Cats: Oh my gawd! Aaaaagh! Get OFF that feeder! … STOP digging up the petunias! OUT! OFF! Aargh! You are ruining my life!

@CatsWander@mastodon.social @UncleDuke1969@universeodon.com We've had good results from a squirrel baffle: a bottomless cylinder attached to the pole of the feeder. Squirrels wanting to eat birdseed climb up inside the cylinder and then climb down again, visibly angry that they can't climb any further.
