🐇Tsuki-boko (月鉾), the 'Moon Float', uses a crescent moon and rabbit pattern on their yukata (redesigned every 2 years). Rabbits are deeply connected to the moon in Asian mythology. In Japan it is said you can see a rabbit pounding mochi on the face of a full moon.

  • Rabbits are indirectly connected to the festival's principal god, Susanoo (スサノオ). His son-in-law, Ōkuninushi (大国主), came to the help of the flayed 'Hare of Inaba' (因幡の白兎). After revealing himself to be a god, the hare married Okuninushi to Yakami, princess of Inaba.
