Me neither. I remember problematic terms such as 'gender bender' if they didn't fit the gender norms in a flamboyant way. Or 'androgynous' which I never really understood. I was called a 'tom boy' because I didn't like dresses and climbed trees. None of these terms properly or respectfully described gender identity, yet it was all we had to work with right?
I'm not NB but definitely GNC, and that's something that I've only been able to name and understand in recent years.
Then there's my teenage daughter who makes sure to check people's pronouns when she meets someone new, and assures me that's the norm now 🥰
