In the happiest and least corrupt country anywhere, the Finnish Prime Minister greenlit a 35 million euro subsidy to a new sports arena. Turns out the sports arena project's boss is an old political party buddy of the prime minister, who just so happened to struggle finding investors. But it's not corruption if it comes from the Nordics, right?

Initially the arena project was supposed to come with a hotel and apartments. When the funding wasn't there, they downscaled it into just a sports/events arena. The thing is tho, one big arena is already being built in Vantaa and another big one has been planned for in Helsinki, plus the existing sports arenas But this didn't stop the PM's office from claiming that this particular arena project is uniquely needed because Finland doesn't have large enough arenas. 🤷‍♀️

  • @miiamustang@eliitin-some.fi nope it's merely sparkling investment 😄 Power differentials and wealth differences breed corruption anywhere.
