@sjslocombe@mathstodon.xyz Can really recommend the book. I'm not a big reader these days, but this one I just couldn't put down. I'm sure the movie's great too, but there's a lot of cool things I don't think would translate to the screen.

@sjslocombe@mathstodon.xyz I have enjoyed both but the book would be my recommendation. It's not as light-hearted and humorous as the movie ( there are parts in the book that portray some funny stuff that a movie would have a hard time portraying) plus there's more information so the story can be understood better. Also, I find my imagination much better than a movie for visualizing.

@sjslocombe@mathstodon.xyz Oof, tough one. They're really companion pieces. I did the audiobook, and was glad I went that way. It felt like the story and dialogue was written to be performed. Not sure it would be the same on the page. The movie is gorgeous, and does a nice job of condensing the story for runtime, but some details will make more sense if you've read the book. If you're gonna discuss it with people who've read the book, I'd say read the book. Then decide if you're somehow not excited to see it on screen.
