I had a horrifying dream that the Ottomans suddenly returned and remade their empire specifically in Ontario. Toronto and Waterloo merged to somehow became New Instanbul. The nightmarish part of the dream was that my favourite banh mi place moved away from the city for unrelated reasons and I was so sad. In Toronto, the Ottomans built a new mosque but it sort of fit into the surrounding architecture of the buildings. The only weird thing was that the minarets, the tall towers used for the call of prayer, were CN towers. They really just built 3 new CN towers for this mosque. Everyone in the dream kept referring to me as Ishmael, the name the Muslim side of my family wants me to change my name to. I woke up feeling disturbed at the thought of an Ottoman takeover and then looked up from bed to see the Turkish flag and for a moment thought my dream was real. I've had this flag hung up for well over two years now, I keep forgetting that.
