The fantasy that men and boys are not victims of sexist patriarchal power structures is to me a cruelty beyond words. The dream that they are a simple boogie-man in full control is just sexism. Again, Connor was a grown man and while that's sad he had outs. The boys he influenced do not. And those boys growing up in a society that applauds self harm when boys do it aren't helped by the Hollywood logic of a simple bad guy to beat to solve an issue.
