The sleeping giant. When I first took the Canadian in 1983, and then in 85 and 89, this is a big thing, but never quite understood it. As it turns out, the port of Thunderbay is sheltered by it, so now understand that giant protecting Thunder Bay. Satelite images provide much help to understand many such features.

This is the original location of the Terry Fox memorial on the south side of what is now higheay 17 (was rural route 17 back then with only 2 lanes). Today, it has been moved north with an "exit" from highway and shops, toilets etc. This humbled me quite a bit. I thought I was pretty good crossing Canada by bike and usually surpassing 200km per day. But this put me right back down. Dude with one leg with cancer ran from Newfoundland to just before Thunder Bay before being forced to abandon
