the medical shipment jacked to sell on the black market, and the replacement shipment also got jacked. our heroes are out of hydrocortisone so they go to Seoul to buy some on said black market. It’s already under contract for another buyer but they offer their boss’s antique desk (they say “100 year old desk” so I guess from like 1850ish) in exchange. Shenanigans happen, they make off with the desk via helicopter somehow (I was a bit unclear on this part), get the medicine and screw the boss.
The big thing I noticed in this one is the approach to race. This is a series made in 1972 about sometime between 1950 and 1953, for context. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing, the one shot we get of Seoul looks like a dystopian nightmare, their jeep is stripped for parts the second they take their eyes off of it (it’s a joke, in fact, haha how quickly things are stolen here, motivations not really considered at all) but the actual people are pretty well treated? Like the kid from last episode didn’t get much screen time but was fine for what there was of it, the black market guy is depicted as very competent and is at least as fleshed out and human as any other one-off (so far; wouldn’t be surprised to see this guy again) sitcom character, and the episode ends with him getting off a crack about “well you know, we all look alike 😉” at the boss. I thhhhhhink they’re trying to be not racist? They’re only kind of succeeding, but I think they’re trying.

Episode 3 a nurse Hawkeye and Trapper, our “heroes”, (look, i learned names!) think is hot gets transferred away so they make a deal with Col. Blake that he’ll get the nurse back if they come up with somebody to go 3 rounds with their general’s pet boxer in a tournament. Hawkeye ropes Trapper into doing it and winning, but he’s a godawful boxer, so they cheat by putting ether on his glove. Except that Maj. Burns switches the ether with water, so Trapper gets beat to hell while Hawkeye figure it out and gets more ether. Trapper wins the fight by cheating and they get the nurse back. D.
Episode 4, Maj. Burns pitches a fit about Hawkeye not respecting his rank so Col. Blake promotes Hawkeye to head surgeon to get Burns to shut up. Burns continues pitching a fit up to the general, who comes to do an inspection which is the basis for a bunch of bits, general joins the surgery, is super impressed by Hawkeye, and tells Burns to shove it. Felt like a redo of the pilot almost, with a few tune ups. C.
Show continues to be Fine. I’d probably skip ahead if this wasn’t watchable while I clean and stuff. Radar is the best character by far and gets a great bit in the inspection sequence in e4. I expected Klinger to be worse and yeah it’s not great but also so far it’s just a dumb bit that’s pretty easy to ignore. We’ll see if that holds.
