I’m not a big believer in guilty pleasures in regard to music: it’s either a bop you dig or it isn’t, no judgement*. But this record is as close to a a guilty pleasure as I ever come. Big production 90s Country in wake of the Dixie Chicks selling buckets of records. I first saw a video for Strawberry Wine on late night cable while staying up at a house I didn’t live in and I was like, damn that gets me right in my sentiments. Which is amusing, a song about a farm girl losing her virginity to make me feel melancholy. But I bought the CD Did I Shave My Legs For This? and it was full of bangers. I listen to it every year at least and songs come up on the iPod shuffle algorithm and it is still charming to me. The vinyl is a 20th anniversary release that’s been on my want list for a while. Prices have bounced around between $90 and $40 but I hung tight and it came up for $20 in a what looked to be a person selling a personal collection. Even then I waffled for few days. You know what? It was an ace purchase. This #vinyl release sounds terrific.
