I spoke to devs at a very AI-centric event recently and they all agreed on this: Writing your own code, running into challenges that stump you, then learning from that is how we as developers learn why certain optimizations exist and when to use them. Most people are going to be using AI at work. AI doesn't replace learning, but it can massively speed up your development time. Minimize use on learning projects, maximize use in cases that require speed. Give it guardrails.

    re: ethics with AI. There's only so much we can do when there's no accountability for ethics in tech. However, the best that we can do is continue to support free and open source models so there is an alternative out there that belongs to the public, not a corporation.
