Three times now the European Parliament has voted against a proposal to allow Meta, TikTok, Snap etc to scan all your private communications for child sexual abuse material, "just in case". 1/

This is bad because the "derogation" that allows this scanning is incredibly sloppy. There are no quality requirements for example, nor does it in any way involve legal checks and balances. Through SCANDALOUS tricks, despite parliament voting against it, the derogation was passed today. 2/
