@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems Wild. It's been a long time since I've taken European trains (thanks to COVID and [REDACTED]), but I didn't run into that last time I took the Heathrow Express or DB. I guess I underestimated how much things have gotten worse in the past few years.

@xgranade@wandering.shop @whitequark@social.treehouse.systems I think mainly Spain, the UK (Eurostar) and China do this. Other countries like Germany absolutely don't. Germany doesn't even have faregates.
