Been doing a little #dnd prep today, including having some fun with making some maps, and realised we have a set up that might be of interest to others.
We have an old tv in our gaming room (technically our dining room, but its filled with #boardgames and #ttrpg books and minis, so we call it the #gaming room). The tv has a dongle connected to it that means we can cast to it from a laptop.
I (as the dm) add all my map assets, character portraits, location moodboards etc. to owlbear.rodeo, and when its game time, I connect the tv to #OwlbearRodeo via the laptop, and there i can show the players any media that is relevant to the game.
When it comes to combat, we like using little paper minis, so on the table we have a great big piece of cardboard with a 1inch grid on it, that is covered in a clear plastic tablecloth that can be drawn on with whiteboard markers.
So we show the fancy colouful detailed map on the tv, and draw a basic version on the tabletop grid.
Works a charm!
