@siracusa@mastodon.social You in the booth would be a real joy. And, you’re right—they squandered so many chances. They’re a famously technically talented team but that’s behind them at this point. I got the feeling they showed up expecting to beat Norway (a second tier team typically) and sulked about their own missteps rather than regrouping and getting their shit (and shots!) together.
England v. Mexico up next. That’ll be a banger.
And, welcome to soccer. It can be deeply infuriating but just as fun.

@Gte@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social They pretty much did the same in the last three World Cups. 2026: 1-2 vs Norway, xG: 2,53-1,42 for Brazil 2022: 1-1 (2-4 Pens) vs Crotia, xG: 1,82-0,63 2018: 1-2 vs Belgium, xG: 2,61-0,41 Always creating more and better chances but not being able to finish them (xG == expected goals based on shot positions).
