@elasticsoul@mastodon.social I was thinking about this the other day, this mad rush to create the Kessler effect. There is so very much wrong with the techbros' cult ideology but, that aside: If their goal is to maintain an exponential growth in energy consumption, which they see as a metric of human progress culminating in the singularity, then they need to expand out get off the planet before it's all used up. They need solar arrays, they need data centres in orbit and on the Moon and Mars. They need Dyson spheres around stars. None of that can happen if they can't even get a rocket off the surface of the Earth.
