8 years ago today, I brought home the cat the shelter told me not to get. She was "violent", "choosy", "hateful", and "wouldn't get along". She's also the best cat I've ever had. She was returned to the shelter as a kitten and stayed there for 5 more years. They didn't even remember her name when I asked. The day we met, she was hiding on a cat tree in the corner of the adult cat room. She reached out, grabbed my hand with her claws, and pulled me in to her chest. We stayed that way for 40 minutes. We're both a little older; we've both got some vision problems, and we've both got some new gray hair... but I wouldn't trade the last eight years with her for anything.
