There's a whole ass science thing about how names have an influence on people's personalities. I wonder how this starts to look with trans people added to the equation. Like do we pick a name that matches our existing personality, do we choose a name with an associated personality we want to work towards, or do our chosen names influence who we end up becoming after our transition? Maybe it's a bit of all 3.

@syphist@zoner.work I stole my great grandmother's name (last name is my Mom's, too), and my Mom picked my middle. I guess that's complicated. It was my Mom's maiden name, her Dad's (shitty secret family man) last name, but specifically his grandmother's married name that I used because it was before he sullied the name and it was the first name written in my baby book. So I guess I wanted it for the good parts and to reclaim it from the bad.

@syphist@zoner.work Mine was picked for so many reasons. It was the theme of of my favorite songs from my childhood, my sisters picked name was Ember so that fit really and it was also the name of one of my favorite characters. However, I didn't really adopt any personality from those things. I wanted my new name to be a fresh start so I can figure out who I really was inside and start defining what that name actually meant to me and what I wanted it to represent to everyone else~ :menhera_happy_hearts:
