When the ritual was over the plague god was carried with the 66 halberds throughout the city, casting out the disease that had terrorised the people.
The procession was accompanied by oversized brocade parasols (綾傘 'ayakasa') and entertainment, such as 'dengaku' (田楽).

There are glimpses of the original goryō-e in the current Yamaboko Junkō: stylistic versions of the halberds soar above the larger hoko floats, the Shijō-Kasa-boko (四条傘鉾) and Ayakasa-hoko (綾傘鉾) preserve the original style of parasols.
