Let's play a game...
"In another universe {pick a pivotal web choice} was {something else instead}" - what changes?
For example, I often wonder hyptotheticals like if TimBL had started with basically markdown instead of HTML where would we be now... Or, if we had nipped sections/headings in '91?

@bkardell@toot.cafe In another universe, the original `` element had a `version` attribute and much less backwards compatibility. I imagine it kills "the" web in some sense—you probably get multiple competing webs and maybe none enjoys the success of ours—but whatever blogging looks like in that universe has lots of "HTML had the right idea" retrospectives.

@bkardell@toot.cafe In another universe Java won and js didn’t actually pick up. We could’ve had what WebAssembly promises two decades earlier.
