I just heard from someone whose company is hiring, and the recruiter reached out to two candidates *who both were not real people. * Apparently there's these shops in India or wherever that literally pay workers to send out fake job applications under fake identities. A) how this operation makes money I do not know - like what on earth is the point here!? B) PLEASE TURN OFF THE DYSTOPIA TAP, thank you

@robyn@yeg.bike Was the fake-application-farm then offering to act as a recruiter??? "Actually, that person does not exist, but we can find you such a person here in India for a great deal, just give us a percentage of what you'd pay the candidate from N.America!"

@robyn@yeg.bike I haven't heard of this in particular, but I'm at the point where someone who came into our office and physically gives the receptionist a resume is pretty much guaranteed an interview (this has happened exactly once since I've been a position where I have to hire). There's such massive quantities of applications that are just spamming digital application channels now. Even if they're real people, they're often fake resumes with invented qualifications and experience from an LLM.
