@kravietz@agora.echelon.pl @aho@mastodon.social Euromaidan happened because pro-Russian President Yanukovych decided not to sign the European Union–Ukraine Association Agreement. Ukrainians wanted closer ties to the EU, so they ousted him. Only then did Russia invade Crimea as a response. [Edited to remove dramatic statement]

@txtx@mastodon.social I’m very much aware of the reasons why Euromaidan happened, but we’re speaking of the whole Ukrainian society, not only the decisively pro-European fraction of it. But Euromaidan was when? In 2013, and Poland joined EU when? In 2004, starting preparations at least decade before. Poland joined NATO in 1997, while the support for joining NATO in Ukraine was low even after 2014, only in 2019 it was officially written into the Constitution. Also, quite curiously, you skipped four full paragraphs of what I wrote only to focus on on one sentence in the last paragraph, about EU. Does that mean you generally agree with the remaining part of my comment? P.S. you’re certainly aware of what happened today - finding the body of the woman who was suspected in attack on Yermolaev, where active HUR officer was now arrested? You think nobody in SBU or President’s Office had no clue about this before? Or that Zelensky doesn’t know about what’s going on in Dnipro? @aho@mastodon.social
