@ramsey@phpc.social @mroach@ublog.mroach.com I think XML was most significantly wronged by being used as a configuration language - if I never have to configure an Apache server again, it'll be too soon - and I do have this quietly incubating train of thought that CSS was probably a web standards misstep, where we could have solved all* our problems by introducing something more like templates/shadow DOM earlier instead. So " means italic" could be a "define as transforming to " template, and so on. *the one important hole in this line of thinking is media queries. There's probably a good pure-XML-templating solution to that, I have a vague idea what it would be, but I think I'd need to do a proof of concept to reassure myself I'm not being a nutter.
