@starsider@valenciapa.ws @astraluma@tacobelllabs.net 568A was the original standard, just called 568, and 568B was added from the AT&T preferred layout. I also believe that they did it in part because crossover cables use A on one side, and B on the other, though crossover cables aren't used much (at least residentially, may have some applications commercially?) anymore. I've never needed one, at least, though I don't work in tech
