The KIDS Act just passed the House and it’s on to the Senate now. Assuming this passes, it’ll mark the end of online free speech and device ownership in the US. Contact your Senators about it while you still can, I just got through writing both of mine.

Prospects of the package clearing both chambers are dim, as the House and Senate remain at an impasse over which of the competing child safety efforts lawmakers should coalesce around — and if such a proposal should block or replace some state artificial intelligence laws. at least there is one good part

    require platforms to implement age verification technology for users accessing pornographic material Wut. I understand (though i dont agree with) trying to limit children from accessing toxic social media sites with algorithms that encourage suicide …but what argument could you possibly make for trying prevent teenagers from viewing pornography?!?
