@Ruth_Mottram@fediscience.org how about that the US looses some states? Don't y'all have an arse in the pants? California wanted to be independent. The US should be ok with some 40 states or less, like 0 states. Give up US VI. Give up Samoa. Give up Guam.
Give up Puerto Rico. The US does not need all the territories. Give up Ramstein. Surrender Pine Gap to the traditional owners. Give up everything you do not own. Leave Germany, Italy and Japan.

@canleaf@mastodon.social @Ruth_Mottram@fediscience.org none of the continental states would be better off as independent. Samoans overwhelmingly prefer their current status as an overseas territory. PR is the only good candidate for independence, and if they want it then I think it should be granted. The true 51st state should be D.C., which is already an integral part of the US but without the rights of statehood.
