I've always just really hated the framing of LLMs "stealing" culture. That's such a capitalist framing. But maybe I'm making a connection that's too abstract or doesn't feel aligned for people who have more direct experience. So if you have a more direct experience and this feels off, please let me know.

  • @Hex@kolektiva.social The most basic thing that most Euro-derived artists feel about the art they make is not a capitalist framing, but it does concern the moral rights of the artist. LLMs violate both attribution and integrity. https://www.copyright.gov/policy/moralrights/

@Hex@kolektiva.social Well, the "AI" scanned three of my books without asking permission. I am privileged in that I don't depend on royalties for survival, but some (many? most?) authors do.

  • @Hex@kolektiva.social I was kind of thinking about this today. Back in the AIM days I had my own chatbot built off of Smarterchild and I loved that work. It was my introduction to programming. In 2015/2016 there was that really brief time where people got really into chatbots again, and I had fun with that. I’ve always been interested in AI and robots, since I was a kid. But more so, as an adult when seeing the first Ironman movie…I didn’t gaf about anything but Jarvis haha. I wanted that.
