The worst offenders are the sovereignty-pilled European tech bros who think plaintext-in-Europe is just fine. I argue that well-implemented cryptography ia resilient even when your governments go more authoritarian. Hope isn't a strategy.

@soatok@furry.engineer Wire seems to be decent too. But I would like to point out that this tools don't have federation and the org behind them are the only o es to manage the servers. From an user side, there is no difference between them and a proprietary solution, your account lifetime is dependent of the good wills of this orgs. Signal has killed my account because one day they decided that not using the main device isn't good enough, after few years.

@soatok@furry.engineer I have a friend who holds this view. It is deeply frustrating that people refuse to accept that your favorite messaging platform isn't as secure as they say they are. I wish they'd get you have a more nuanced take on things(also it does no one any favors not to call out bad behavior in cryptography)
