@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org They get a lot of visitors, it's a popular trail, and that granite is slick when wet. I suspect it's more that they don't remove them knowing they can use them again. I saw easily a half dozen along that stretch. There were probably more, but I wasn't going to leave the trail to look for them.
