I don't get what's with people wanting fedi to go mainstream, like is it not exceedingly obvious that'd be the marking point of where things will start to go downhill
I think fedi is as good as it is because it's niche and automatically filters out the kinda unpleasant people you'd find on bigger socials

@driftini@wetdry.world If something is not the default option, most of the people who never stop to consider whether or not the default/normal option is decent get filtered out.

it DOES suck that we're effectively locked off in our corner of the internet and it does bring its downsides (echo chamber-y behavior about the Undebatably Evil topics of the month) but I'd take having to run separate fedi and bsky accounts any day over having a single account on a neutered fedi
