I recently discovered that there is a statue of Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva in a public place in my little town. And it was installed only last autumn! Schwäbisch Gmünd is a thoroughly Catholic place, but there is a sizeable population from South and East Asian countries here. I, for one, like this public presence of a non-Christian religious symbol. Christianity gets to take up so much space in public life here. Why shouldn't Buddhism get a few square meters?
