@bascule@mas.to I’m not American and didn’t study American history much but what little I know never gave me an impression that America ever was free country. Maybe around signing the declaration of independence for a hot minute it could’ve been an aspiration but at any other time it’s been clever marketing at best. Since before America became a country people there were very selective about whom freedom is available to. Different people had different ideas about that but very few had freedom for all as their leading approach. Now, I’m all for second chances and reinventing self but I don’t see it coming for America anytime soon. As unfortunate as it is.
