I never stopped to think about how the name "Fugitive Slave Act" frames the enslaved person as the criminal.

@AlSweigart@mastodon.social And, contrary to what Southern apologists will tell you, one of the main grievances named in the South Carolina articles of secession was the refusal of Northern states to enforce the Fugitive Slave Act. In other words, they were *opposed* to the "states' rights" that we're always hearing so much about.
