@AlSweigart@mastodon.social And, contrary to what Southern apologists will tell you, one of the main grievances named in the South Carolina articles of secession was the refusal of Northern states to enforce the Fugitive Slave Act. In other words, they were *opposed* to the "states' rights" that we're always hearing so much about.
