Kane Parsons, the 20yo director of Backrooms, mentioned Punishment Park (1971) as an inspiration in an interview, which I had not seen, though I love Peter Watkins's 1964 Culloden. We watched Punishment Park tonight and it's somehow simultaneously shocking and satisfying to hear so many of the problems we face in the US today coming from the mouths of (lightly) fictionalized young people 55 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dAEHh4Lw98
