A while ago, I made a post where I made a rough calculation how much paid subscriber Mozilla would need to have, to be fully community funded. Let's review that question with a poll. Mozilla spent $417 million in salaries and benefits in 2024 [1]. This number was $328 million the year before. Let's put this figure at $400 million. Let's add another $100 million in other expenses. As per June 22nd Firefox had slightly over 200 million clients in use [2]. Both these numbers give us something to work with: it would take $2.50 a year per user to fund Mozilla. Of course not everyone is going to. Assuming this would also make Mozilla community-driven in its development priorities, which I think is a reasonable assumption as who pays, decides, would you chime in with a monthly subscription?
