Even though the styling of iOS 27 is much improved in places over iOS 26, using it alongside an iOS 18 phone I’m still not convinced that the new design actually solves any problems at all. I regularly get the feeling of my screen looking so messy, because there is just no visual structure when UI looks like it is randomly floating in a sea of content/other UI. Apple can refine the styling all they want, but I don’t think *this* is fixable. Proper toolbars and tab bars need to come back.

A floating search field at the bottom of the screen is something I overlook a lot of the time. Being translucent, it doesn’t stand out from the scrolling content and while I understand it makes ergonomic sense given how massive phones are these days, it just looks and feels “off”.

@tuomas_h@mastodon.social I don’t think that „solving a problem“ is high on the priority list, very different motivations at play

@tuomas_h@mastodon.social It’s especially insulting on Safari, where a web page that Apple didn’t make is subjected to the floating/gradient/overlay crap and suddenly has legibility issues, or at the very least unintentional effects (I know I did not intend, nor want, the top of my site to sometimes appear with a gradient fade to the wrong color).

@tuomas_h@mastodon.social I think “sucks less” was the goal.
