So, just a reminder in time for vacation season. That cute little 10-room country inn that's a hundred years old, with beautiful gardens and free-range chickens in the yard? It's a nightmare to stay at. No insulation in the walls. Every footstep in every part of the house echos into your room. Every flush of a toilet in the middle of the night. Every sneeze and cough sounds like it's inside your room. In hot and humid weather, everything feels wet -- upholstery, bedding, towels. Yeah, they have A/C, but it just makes everything damp when the humidity inside is 70-80%. I'm normally able to sleep anywhere, pretty much instantly -- but I have no idea how these places like that get such high ratings on the various review sites. I've slept better in my car.
