@kokorins@fosstodon.org Sure, the Sailfish Browser uses Gecko as its web engine because too many browsers use Chromium. It's a descendent of the Maemo browser, back from when Gecko had Qt support built-in. That has since been removed upstream, so Sailfish OS has been maintaining that and embedlite, which is quite a lot of work so over the years it's fallen behind a bit. @flypig@mastodon.social did the last bump to ESR91, and this one means we're sort-of on a still supported Gecko, which hasn't happened for a few years.

Alternative mobile OS (Ubuntu Touch, Postmarket, Sailfish...) will never have all the apps that iOS and Android have, so websites are heavily used instead. So it is super important that the browser is solid and up to date. Unfortunately that has not been the case for UT and Sailfish. Thank you for working on it for Sailfish, and I know @mariogrip@fosstodon.org is doing the same for UT so kudos guys!
