@jackyan@mastodon.social truthfully, i wasnt 100% sure how it fitted in until this calendar https://matariki.twoa.ac.nz/maramataka/ from Te Wānanga o Aotearoa which shows Pipiri then Ruhanui. Makes sense - Pipiri is the star higher in the sky so it would mark the month. Then when Matariki cant be seen in the 3/4 or Tangaroa moon, Ruhanui would kick in. Then Takurua, the star for the next month applies at the next new moon. Pipiri - Sheratan Ruhanui - Hamal Takurua - Sirius
